Big beercan vs. Sony/Minolta AF 75-300mm f4-5.6. I recently got a nearly mint Big Beercan Minolta AF 75-300 for not much dough and thought to use it as my "good" 300mm occasional lens as I rarely shoot at that focal length. I decided to do an indoor test vs the so-so condition Minolta AF 75-300 f4-5.6 plastic fantastic in the silver grey color.

So it's sharpest at 300mm (which is what was most important for me) -- whereas the Sony 70-300 is less sharp compared to its 70 and 100mm end. In fact, it seems that the Minolta 100-300 is about the same as the Sony 70-300G at 300mm itself.

The 70-210mm zooms internally, and has a constant F/4 aperture across the entire zoom range. The original Minolta AF 75-300mm sports a focus limiter switch, so you can limit the travel of the focusing, thereby making it faster, but limiting it to a smaller window of focus range, see more about this in the next paragraph.
